Wright & Gray Architects worked with Homestead Construction on the development of the New Zealand Campus of Innovation and Sport (NZCIS), Upper Hutt.

Wright & Gray Architects designed the accommodation units that form the Athletes Village as well as the central Amenities building. The Amenities building adds a social hub for athletes to gather, eat, and socialise in a central space to complement the Athletes Village. The Athletes Village includes 50 self-contained accommodation units, complete with a bedroom, kitchen, living area, bathroom, and laundry. The units include 4 simulated altitude apartments. The interiors are designed to a high standard, as will be expected by the elite and professional teams who will stay and train at this world-class facility.

The buildings have been designed to complement the original 1960s/70s ‘brutalist’ architecture, including some beautiful natural precast concrete work by Homestead.

We are pleased to receive fantastic feedback from the Swedish Women's National team after their stay at NZCIS for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023. It is a wonderful reflection of the thoughtfully designed facilities at NZCIS.

“NZCIS became like a home away from home for us in the team and the service level was first class. The accommodation is the absolute best we ever had and to have the dining room and players lounge in the same room was a winning concept for us and really helped to get the group together. As the pitch is one of footballs most important things NZCIS delivered the best pitch in the tournament. We would from the bottom of our hearts thank the entire team at NZCIS for making our stay a pleasure and we recommend this facility to all teams around the world!”
