“……. everything is going very well – we’re loving it. With the change in seasons there is more light coming through the Eastern side windows & skylights which brightens everything up. We’ve been socialising a bit and the response from everyone is WOW..!! It is exactly what we were after when deciding to open up the kitchen & lounge, it works very well..!” - client
It is amazing what removing one wall can do that unlocks a whole project. Wright & Gray Architects were engaged to reimagine and connect an existing isolated kitchen with the living and dining areas of the house. The renovation has changed the way everyone lives in the house now.
Opening up the view to the kitchen was central to the original design brief and the large central island is the perfect place to stand behind to survey Wellington’s beautiful harbour, or to entertain guests or talk to, or cook with family members. The view from the show kitchen is now just as good as that from the other areas.
New larger windows on the north exterior face and well positioned skylights in the roof, bring in lots of warm sun and light.
The back area of the kitchen is a scullery with its own sink and is able to be closed off from the open kitchen. In the interest of space efficiently, we designed the laundry that closes away in this back area also.
The result is a bright well-designed spacious open plan kitchen and living space that is an entertainers dream with amazing views to delight, but also very functional.
