Whether contemporary or traditional in style, the challenges in successfully siting and designing a country house are the same. This attractive rural property had a flat "building platform", where it was expected that the house would be built.
We questioned that assumption, and by siting the house to the very edge of the flat ground, we preserved this space as an outdoor living and play area. The boomerang-shaped house encloses two sides of the outdoor living area, and shelters it from the prevailing wind.
The large house follows the traditional arrangement of bedrooms on the first floor and living spaces on the ground. The bedrooms are tucked into the steep roof so that the house it not too tall. A generous veranda wraps the living rooms and large glazed doors connect the indoor and outdoor living areas.
