Aroha Care Centre for the Elderly provides both rest home and extended age care (hospital). The existing hospital wing was outdated, with the four-bed rooms no longer adequate for the changing demographic.
The project provides a total of 35 single bedrooms with ensuites, achieved with a mix of extension and re-purposing of redundant existing spaces. The hospital wing was fully modernised with new insulation, services and finishes. Great attention was paid to create an environment that was non-institutional and felt like a home.
Construction was in three stages, each carefully planned and managed to minimise disruption and noise and to maintain essential services and facilities. Following the success of this project, progressive upgrading of other wings has been planned over the coming years.
