October 19 was a major milestone for Kapiti Retirement Trust, with the blessing of the building site for their new Care Wing project. This much-needed facility has been many years in the planning.
The new Care Wing will provide 14 one-bedroom suites, supported by new communal living, dining, activities and kitchen. The new wing has been carefully planned to connect with the existing Matai Wing and to define the Kauri Wing outdoor space. The site is challenging with an awkward shape, difficult ground conditions and many existing in-ground services.
Wright & Gray Architects worked with Southcombe Architects Ltd on the concept design, and then led the consultant team through detail design and consenting.
Crowe Construction & Associates Ltd (Levin) were appointed head contractor following a competitive tender. The new facility is to be completed by December 2024.
